Prayers of the People

January31, 2010

When you hear the words, "take our hand and...", please respond with "hear our prayers."

Jeremiah 1: verse 9 And God put forth his hand and touched my mouth and said to me, "Behold, I have put my words in your mouth."

olympic flame    the torch
what are we running to?    what are we fleeing from?
God, light our way with a flame of sincerity
with our prosperity
help us to know where and how
to reach in times of trouble
the rubble /let us redouble
to clear away /without delay
avail for us your trail
God, our flame our holy torch
let us run with you
take our hand and...    "hear our prayers."

at this, the end of world leprosy week
on holocaust memorial day
on the international day to "inspire your heart with art"
do on us impart /the rare rather than the rogue
do not prorogue /our seismic shift
from pain to pathos and poverty to pleasure
Epiphany
let us anticipate culminations
reiterate revelation
advocate for the interim ministry of the congregations of
Greenwood, Grand Forks and Christina Lake.
concentrate on prayers for the nations of
Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden
God, our flame our holy torch
let us run with you
take our hand and...    "hear our prayers."

God, do not forsake /in earthquake's wake
the Haitian people
the helpful hands of Sebastian De Marre, Marie-Paule Brisson and David Putt
the members of Zimbabwe's Nyanyadzi church
the makers and keepers of peace
Those named on our Prayer List
and those we add in this moment of silence
God, our flame, our holy torch
let us run with you
take our hand and...    "hear our prayers."

Our world so precious /so singly unique
the air we breathe /the water we drink
give us the respect to protect
the foods we grow
to reject the disconnect
of nature and slow
with our intellect
the greenhouse effect
to correct the neglect
to object
to the use of our earth
as an experiment for dearth
and a stampede for our greed.
God, our flame, our holy torch
let us run with you
take our hand and...    "hear our prayers."

God, our flame our holy torch
Let the games not scorch /our worth
Keep safe our earth /and hear us when

Together we say,   "Amen."
