Prayers of the People

October 31, 2010

Let us join together in faith with all our church's saints and fellow journeyers -those of yesterday, today and those yet to come. May we hear their wisdom, see their visions and feel their passions. In prayer we ask God to fill us with hope, challenge and love, and so we gather now in the Prayers of the People. When you hear the words, "God who calls us to Action", please respond with Hear our prayers.

God of cooling October mornings and elongating star-filled nights, we long to be filled with a vision of renewal that even as the earth settles into a time of rest, it still dreams of rebirth. May this time of silent slumber be a time to contemplate patience, envision possibilities and rejuvenate a tired soul. Even as we travel further into longer nights and shorter days, may we remember that your light continues to shine, even when we don't see it. God who calls us to Action...    "Hear our prayers".

Wise and passionate God, may the stories, lives and memories of those gone before us on this path of faith, be heard, felt and remembered in ways that continue to inspire us to follow and make anew pathways for journeyers of today and in the future. May the challenges, hopes and ideals of the past saints continue to be our challenges, hopes and ideals today. Forgive us when we forget, or wonder away from these dreams. Help us to share your hopes and all our church's saints hopes as we continue to envision our church's future. God who calls us to Action...    "Hear our prayers".

God of vision, challenge us to see the possibilities beyond the way things are. Remind our community leaders to listen to the wisdom of the saints, to be responsive to the needs of people today and be forward thinking even in the face of adversity. Give us the strength to share ourselves with the people we meet, the desire to be Christ to the world and the wisdom to discern your will for us. We ask your blessing for our brothers and sisters at Nyanyadzi Methodist Church in Zimbabwe and for the Peacemakers and Peacekeepers serving throughout the world and their families. In our World Council of Churches Prayer Cycle, we ask for your care especially for the peoples of The Indian Ocean Islands: Comoros, Madagascar, Mauritius, Seychelles and Maldives. In our Kootenay Presbytery Prayer Roster we pray for Jack Lindquest: retired minister in Kootenay Presbytery.God who calls us to Action...    "Hear our prayers".

God of transforming hope, we come knowing that we are all saints in your eyes. Like Zacchaeus, we too came wanting to see Jesus, but it is Jesus who sees us first, knowing just the right spot under just the right tree. Through Jesus we see how acts of kindness, sharing and generousity can spread out like a wave to others, for as we are transformed so are those in our families, in our communities and in our world. Today we remember all those who guided us on our spiritual paths, so that we too may continue to reflect caring, sharing and a daring faith for future journeyers. We ask that you hold in your loving embrace those who are grieving, distressed or feeling hopeless, that they may be lifted and find hope. We pray for all those named on our Prayer List. We pause at this time to remember aloud, or silently in our hearts, others for whom we are concerned...     ...God who calls us to Action...    "Hear our prayers".

Source of life, open our eyes, ears and hearts to the voices of your saints. Guide our steps and our ways as we live your hope for the world. You call us to live lives of love and hope. Help us to live out this calling as we go out into our community, sharing love and hope with each other. God who calls us to Action...    "Hear our prayers".

God hear the prayers we offer today and may this time of silent reflection be truly an opportunity where we experience the sainthood of all peoples. And together we say...    "Amen".
