Exploration 1) We share breakfast together and engage in lively discussion about the book that we are reading together. All who are able to function at 6:45 a.m! (when we gather) are welcome!! We share our thoughts about a chapter of the book while sharing breakfast; we are done by 8 am so folk who need to can get to work. The aim of this book is to explain the underlying spiritual--although not necessarily religious--principles of Alcoholics Anonymous. Part 1 presents the emphasis of this spirituality, which is the recognition and especially the acceptance of humans as imperfect beings. Part 2 tells how the founders of AA put spirituality to use. Part 3 discusses the benefits: release, gratitude, humility, tolerance, and forgiveness. On nearly every page, the authors retell stories and provide anecdotes from various sources: ancient Christian, Muslim, Jewish, Greek, and more. One need not have an interest in AA to benefit from this fine introduction to spirituality. 2) Intentional Christian Living What does it mean to live an intentional Christian life? How might we support each other in living intentionally? Might we choose to follow a way of intentional living like the Iona Community or some other example that would help us live more intentionally and more
supportively?
Spirituality 1) Contemplative Prayer: Contemplative prayer is the quiet prayer of meditation. There is a long history of contemplative prayer in the Christian Church Are you interested in exploring what contemplative prayer might mean, if you are new to meditation, or are a long-time meditator, speak to David about developing such an opportunity to be with others who practice contemplative prayer.
