Children & Youth

At Nelson United Church we are constantly striving to create a place for children and youth. Our philosophy is that children and youth ARE a valued part of our community and are treated with the same respect and dignity as adults.
To support children and youth, we have Sunday School on Sunday mornings, a youth group, and fun learning/community building opportunities for families of all ages.
In our hectic world, we want to provide a safe and enriching place for children and youth to find their place and explore their identity and connection to the Creator of life and to our brothers and sisters in the world. During Worship, there is a "Children's Corner" in the front of the Sanctuary where youngsters can play quietly or there is a Nursery located behind the balcony.

Junior Choir

The Nelson United Church Junior Choir provides school-aged members of our congregation and community with an opportunity to develop a lifelong love of sacred music and to lead in worship through choral performance. We rehearse Thursdays from 4:00-5:00 p.m. in the church lounge with performances during the 10:00 a.m. Sunday morning Worship Service about every six to eight weeks. Music and a small snack will be provided. Please speak to Robin Murray for more information.

Sunday School

Start Date: September 13th, 2009
Time: Sundays, September-June

Sunday School runs parallel to the worship time; we begin worship together and then after a story time and a song, the children go to Sunday School. We have two classes, one for younger children (ages 4 to 11) and one for older children (ages 12 and up). We use a curriculum called "Seasons of the Spirit," which focuses in Sunday School on the same Bible stories being used in worship.

Youth Group

Start Date: September 19th, 2009
Time:7 p.m. in the Church Hall.

The Youth Group is for teens in grades 7 to 12. The group's purpose is to provide mutual support, have fun together, deepen our spiritual lives, provide a chance to talk about God and life, and just be a safe place to be together.
When we meet in September, we'll decide on future meetings, times, themes, etc. Opportunities for confirmation also take place through the Youth Group.
