Family Ministry
Nelson United Church is called to support and nurture the children of God at all stages and ages of life within the context of the Christian traditions; our family ministry focus expands beyond the nuclear family to recognize that children and youth often come to church with grandparents or other caregivers.
What this ultimately means is that we want to provide opportunities for families (multiple generations being together) to have access to spiritual resources and feel more interconnected within the church community. We also want to support families as they struggle... part of this support involves helping families find strategies and natural opportunities for speaking about God and spirituality and recognizing the sacred in day-to-day life.

Intergenerational Worship
On several Sundays during the year there will be opportunities for intergenerational worship. Our first will be Thanksgiving Sunday and our next one will be the Sunday following the anniversary of the UN Declaration of the Rights of the Child on November 22nd.
Our philosophy at Nelson United Church is that children are welcome. There is a "Children's Place" area at the front of the sanctuary and a Nursery for young children upstairs – this area has a window and speaker so that you can see and hear what is happening in Worship in the Sanctuary.

All children are welcome.

Family Events
Dates: Twice in the Fall, and 2 or 3 times in the Winter/Spring, on Sunday afternoon
Time:4 p.m. to 7:15 p.m., supper is provided
First Gathering: Sunday, September 27th

These learning events are for all generations and are meant to empower families to speak about God together, to deepen family members' spiritual lives, to enhance our understanding of worship, and to strengthen our sense of community. These events will be linked to the seasons of the year.
At our first gathering in September we will learn some songs; there will be a fun scavenger hunt related to our church building and what we do in worship. And we will create something beautiful for our church. We'd also like your input as to how to involve you more fully in worship and what intergenerational worship means to you.

All are welcome.

Parent Group
We would like to determine if there is interest in forming a parents fellowship/support/conversation group. Please contact David at the church or Janet Boyd at 250.354.1260. The purpose of this group would be for parents to gather together for support, conversation, "reality checks", or whatever... with the church's support.

Godly Play
This is a new way to share with children in the telling and celebration of stories. Please watch for details about an upcoming workshop.
