What do we mean by worship?
The word "worship" came from two Old English words worth and ship and meant "worthiness." Originally, the word had to do with "distinction, credit, dignity" and then morphed into meaning "respect, reverence." It wasn't until the 13th century that the word was used in a religious sense.
Here at Nelson United, we try to emphasize that worship is about recognizing the dignity of all people and all life. We attempt to cultivate a sense of reverence and mutual respect as we gather together to celebrate God's love for the world.
By worshipping together, we strive for an inclusive, intergenerational experience where people of all ages and perspectives can find a place. We do have a "Children's Corner", a quiet area at the front of the church for children, and a nursery upstairs behind the balcony.

| Sunday Mornings Time: 10:00 a.m. There is a time of informal singing or learning new songs starting at 9:45 a.m. We gather to worship to deepen our spiritual lives both personally and as a community of seekers. On the first Sunday of each month we celebrate the sacrament of Communion; we hold baptisms as requests arise and from time to time, there are intergenerational services. We sing both contemporary music and more traditional music, have a church choir and use dramas on occasion.
All are welcome.
2nd and 4th Wednesdays Time: 7 p.m. in the Church Hall Starting: Wednesday, September 23rd
We gather to worship in a semi-circle in the Church Hall; this worship experience is experiential, participatory and contemporary. We use readings and sacred stories from different traditions. We purposely attempt to be spiritual in our worship perspective rather than religious. For these reasons we call this worship opportunity AWE – Alternative Worship Experience. All are welcome.
1st Sunday of the Month Time: 7 p.m. in the Church Hall
We gather to worship in a Taizé style; this means that we sing and chant, have a time of silence, and pray together. Taizé is a small, monastic community in France that emphasizes spiritual depth and community.
All are welcome.
