Pastoral Care

May we allow ourselves to be surprised by God’s grace,

especially when we visit the sick, the injured, and those who are facing death.

Everyone experiences a trying situation or is given a difficult journey at some point in life. Whether it be grief, depression, loss, sickness, loneliness, or a major life transition, everyone knows a season of challenge. People sometimes travel this path alone, without anyone by their side.

At Nelson United Church, we have a committed team of members who will reach out to those in need to offer comfort or companionship. They respect your confidentiality. They help to keep people connected when they are no longer able to come to church, as well as making home visits with communion, prayers, and conversation. This ministry is offered in the following ways here:

Prayer Ministry:

If you or a loved one are ill, facing adversity, or going into hospital and would like to be upheld in prayer, please be in touch with the office to let us know how we can pray for you.

To receive prayers from the congregation you may ask to be added to the Prayer List. Or, you can ask for confidential prayers from the Prayer cycle of the Pastoral Care Team.

Pastoral Visitation:

If someone is unable to make it to church or faces any challenges in life, members of our pastoral care team will call them on the phone or visit them in their residence.

Arrangements can be made for Rev. Fredrick to visit.

For millennia, First Nations peoples have lived on and cared for this land, their deep connection to it rooted in culture, identity, and spirituality. We respectfully acknowledge that the land on which we gather is the traditional territory of many diverse Indigenous nations located within the intersecting traditional territories of multiple First Nations and is home to diverse Indigenous peoples including the Metis. We recognize the historical and ongoing injustices faced by Indigenous communities. Though we may not fully comprehend the depth of these experiences, we commit ourselves to learning and reflection. We believe that sincere words can open hearts and inspire change. As fellow children of the Creator, we commit to walking the path of reconciliation together.
