NELSON UNITED CHURCH
"We dare to live the Way of Jesus,
Embodying the Love of God"

Rev. Fredrick Thondhlana
I was born on 12 June 1982 in Mutare, located in Manicaland Province of Zimbabwe, Africa. I spent my early years in Mutare, where I completed my foundational education. Driven by a deep passion for ministry, I relocated to Harare to pursue theological training at the United Theological College in 2006. I hold several academic qualifications, including a Diploma in Theology, a Diploma in Religious Studies, a BA Honors in Religious Studies, and an MSc in Peace and Governance.
I began my pastoral journey with the United Church of Christ of Zimbabwe (UCCZ) in 2005 and was ordained in 2011. Over the years, I
made impactful contributions to the church and the broader community.
My leadership roles included serving as the Director for Children’s
Ministries and Youth Ministry, Christian Education Director, and
Communications Director for UCCZ. In these roles, I focused on nurturing
the spiritual growth of younger generations.
In addition to the church work, I have been a strong advocate for social
justice through my involvement with the Zimbabwe Council of Churches
where I addressed societal challenges affecting vulnerable populations. I am one of the founding members of the Kanyi Redu Development Trust,
an initiative focused on supporting the vulnerable in the Chipinge District
of Zimbabwe. Through this trust, I implemented programs aimed at
empowering and uplifting marginalized communities. I have been actively involved in civic organizations, championing the rights of the less privileged. As a passionate peace practitioner, I consistently spoke out against violence and injustice, advocating for dialogue and community engagement as tools to resolve conflicts and foster a more peaceful society.
I am excited to begin another journey with the United Church of Canada. I view this as an opportunity to continue the mission of serving others and promoting peace and justice. As I embark on this new chapter, I recognize that one of the biggest challenges for leadership in the times ahead will be fostering unity and inclusivity in increasingly diverse and polarized communities. However, I remain committed to addressing these challenges with faith, dialogue, and a spirit of service.
In addition to the ministry and social work, I am an accomplished
musician, and have recorded three professional albums. I am married to
Juliet Mwafuka who is also a Pastor, and together we have a daughter,
Blessing.
